Joe Biden has crossed the 270 mark of electoral votes according to projections made by the Associated Press and will be the next president of the United States.
Joe Biden, the former two-term vice president and a Senate veteran, will be the 46th President of the United States, news agency Associated Press (AP) projected Saturday. Indian-American Kamala Harris will be the next vice president, the first woman and the first person of colour to hold the office.
Biden’s Republican opponent Donald Trump, however, has refused to concede, saying the “election is far from over” and that he will not “rest until the American People have the honest vote count they deserve and what Democracy demands”.
AP has declared Biden’s win over President Trump after having called Pennsylvania and its 20 electoral votes for Biden, taking the total votes to 290. 270 electoral votes is needed to win the presidency. Biden had also been leading in Georgia and Nevada, ensuring over 270 electoral votes.
